There is something so magical about this time of year in the garden. Just when everything begins to wake up, the irises take center stage—tall, elegant, and full of personality.
This season, my yard has been bursting with different varieties of bearded iris, each one more beautiful than the next. From soft, romantic pastels to rich, dramatic jewel tones, they feel like nature’s own curated collection.
The first to catch my eye were the peach and blush-toned irises, with their ruffled petals and warm, glowing centers. They remind me of a soft sunset—delicate, feminine, and quietly stunning.
Lavender Whisper
Then come the showstoppers—those deep, velvety purples. These blooms feel almost regal, with their rich color and dramatic texture. They add such depth and contrast to the garden, especially when planted alongside lighter shades.
And just when you think you’ve seen it all, the golden and amber irises appear, bringing warmth and a slightly wild, painterly look. Their tones feel sun-kissed and earthy, blending beautifully with the surrounding greenery.
If you’ve ever thought about adding irises to your garden, I can’t recommend them enough. They’re low maintenance, incredibly rewarding, and truly one of the most elegant flowers you can grow. And right now… they’re absolutely stealing the show.
Back of our koi pond. Every year birds make a nest and raise their babies inside.Tucked among everything are my geraniums, quietly doing their part. They add that perfect touch of charm and color, softening the edges and making everything feel a bit more relaxed and cottage-like.
The steps down to the pool. We have roses on each side.
While the irises may be the stars of late spring, my roses are beginning their own performance. Bright pink blooms are opening one by one, adding softness and a classic garden romance.
I love how roses fill in the spaces. Their layered petals and vibrant color create such a lush, full look—like little bursts of joy tucked throughout the garden
Happy April.

They are gorgeous. My favorites are the first 2.
ReplyDeleteLinda your iris are beautiful as is your whole garden. In Kansas, I raised all colors of iris so this makes me nostalgic as they won'r grow here in Florida. I especially loved the beautiful yellow iris (Harvest of Memories) and the all white that stood out in my garden. I also had a black iris...so pretty. Iris actually grow wild in the midwest but usually the dark blue variety and they are not as lush as those from a nursery. Thanks for the memories today. Happy Spring.🌸👒🌻🧚🏻
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday Linda. OMG the beauty in your garden. The iris's look amazing. Have a great weekend. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers and yard! RHill, TX
ReplyDeleteI adore irises. They have sentimental value for me, but even if they didn't, who could resist those fabulous colors, the wonderful shape, the way they start with that tall, skinny bud and open ever so gently into a colorful array. Yours are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteOh, those Irises!! They ARE the queens of any garden, with their fluffy gowns and elaborate garden-party hats. I think their numbers in the South are second only to Zinnias, for their bright colors and staying-value.
ReplyDeleteAnd your prose praise of them today is magical---I could see them if there were no photos. Thank you for the lovely tour!!
Beautiful spring blooms and iris Linda! I love the variety and their ruffly petals. Happy Friday!

ReplyDeleteI love all of the colors as well. Happy gardening! 🌻🌷
We just moved into a brand new house 1-1/2 yrs ago, so that was time to at least plant bulbs that Fall ... and I have a bunch of irises around the tree in front too! Also, my dianthus from last summer didn't die under our 1 week of winter & snow (north of Dallas) and is blooming more than last summer! Add in the pansies and snapdragons that decided they needed to bloom more than in Fall too, and I have a riot of color! So many different colors of things this year, that I went a little crazy ~ dark purple & white petunias ~ Hot neon pink geraniums ~ Dark pink petunias with yellow centers !! We moved from over 2 acres to just a very small lot, but I can't stop buying plants like I still have 2 acres!! (I can't grow veggies worth a darn, but have always had a green thumb with flowers)
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your gardens! Your variety of irises is incredible. I would love to walk along the path to see all the different colors. Absolutely stunning!
