Welcome to another chapter of The Tales of the Traveling Tote! There/ are some handbags that simply carry your things, and then there are the special ones that seem to have a life of their own.
A few times a year, a group of us ladies take our beloved totes on adventures and share the stories of where they have traveled. These aren't just ordinary shopping trips. Our totes have accompanied us on business trips, shopping adventures, vacations, special occasions, and everyday outings. We have each named our totes and love sharing photos of them along the way.
If you know me, you know that a trip to a nursery is always a good idea, and adding tomatoes to the adventure made it even better. Miss Lola fit right in among all the greenery, flowers and garden goodies.

Next Stop: The Circus! Then it was time for another tote to have her turn.
Miss Gigi is my custom-designed Mackenzie-Childs tote, and she came along with me to the circus when Circus Vargas came to town.
The circus was filled with lights, music, performers and amazing acts. From aerialists soaring high above the audience to incredible unicycle acts and the excitement of the motorcycle performers, there was something to watch everywhere we looked.
Miss Gigi had a pretty spectacular night out! I love that this traveling tote adventure gives us an excuse to photograph our bags in places we might not normally think to photograph them. After all, it's the stories behind the totes that make them special.

His name is “Jugglin Joe” and when all lit up at night the neon Joe tosses a scoop of ice cream into the air with his right hand, and magically makes it land in the cone in his left hand.
Herman, “Pop” Gunther designed Jugglin Joe in 1949 when he and his wife Iva relocated Gunther’s Ice Cream Parlour to Franklin Blvd. & 3rd Ave. It is there that Pop Gunther would tell the children that if Jugglin Joe dropped his scoop, that the ice cream was free. To this day Joe has been keeping everyone, children and adults alike, wondering if this is going to be their lucky day.
For over 70 years, Joe has sat atop Gunther’s Ice Cream, presiding over Sacramento’s oldest ice cream parlor. Through good times and bad times, Jugglin Joe is still throwing his scoop of ice cream in the air and, as promised, if Joe ever misses… the ice cream is free!

What great local events and places, Linda! Wow, the magic of the Doc & Rose Ice Cream Bar is incredible! Reminds me of my childhood drug store and barstools we had in our home growing up. My older sisters always talk about how they had to polish the chrome every Friday night. I think a tomato tasting event would be great. I watch a garden video every day, and the host describes her family's tomatoes and their preferences with conviction! Miss Lola and Miss Gigi seem to be having a great summer. Looking forward to fall.....

ReplyDeleteYou had some fun outings, Linda! I never knew there were so many varieties of tomatoes. The circus must’ve been exciting and then a delicious ice cream treat right in the hardware store. That’s my kinda place. I love Miss Gigi, your customized MKC tote. ❤️

ReplyDeleteI love the graphic you made with all the Traveling Tote gal's names! Joe loves going to Ace Hardware but wow the Doc & Rose Ice Cream Bar would have me wanting to join him lol. A tomato tasting event would be right up my alley. I discuss tomatoes with my sister and two nieces daily as we all grow them. My niece's husband is going nuts over having too many tomatoes :-) Looks like Miss Lola and Miss Gigi had a nice summer.

Gee, our Ace Hardware is just a hardware store...nothing exciting like ice cream and jugglin' Joe. Unless you count a hot dog food truck that may or may not stop there during lunch. LOL. ReplyDeleteWow, such fun venues for you and your traveling totes Linda. I have never been to a tomato tasting event but those who know me well know I love tomatoes! I had no idea there were so many varieties! I'm sure I would never be able to choose. Garden centers are a favorite of mine too. The circus sounds like a fun escape, I would love all the fun there. Love seeing Miss Gigi make an appearance. Reminds me to take my others out for adventures. Ice cream is always a summer hit, especial since we are hovering around 100 degrees everyday.
