🚂 All Aboard the Sweet Express: How to Make Adorable Christmas Candy Trains!
The holidays are here, and there's nothing quite like a festive project that fills the kitchen with cheer and results in something both adorable and delicious! Forget complicated gingerbread houses—this year, we're building the Christmas Candy Train! These candy trains are so fun to make, and the best part is that the kids love making them. It's a fantastic, no-bake craft where everyone can unleash their creativity. Whether they're building a massive log carrier or a Santa-themed passenger car, they can customize their trains to their liking. Get ready to hop aboard the most delightful activity of the season!
Making these adorable candy trains is a fun holiday tradition perfect for all ages. They make great table decorations, small gifts, or a delightful project to do with kids. The best part? They require no baking!
Paul cut some thin plywood- 20 inches long X 5 inches wide for the trains. You can also use cardboard. I wrapped the board with Christmas Wrapping paper. You could also use foil.
The train tracks are black licorice- lace or regular. I cut them into pieces to resemble train tracks. Use icing to attach to your board.
The Engine You'll need one and 3/4 part of a regular-sized rectangular candy bar such as 3 Musketeer. 1 half of a life saver roll, wrapper removedThis process is straightforward and fun! Work on a flat, clean surface.
Step 1: Prep the Wheels
Turn the musketeer bar upside down. Use a generous dot of icing on the underside and firmly press one wheel onto each corner. Hold for a moment until it feels secure. Tip: Let the wheels dry for about 10-15 minutes before handling the car too much.
I used 8 peppermints for the engine car.
When the wheels are dry, add 3/4 of a musketeer candy bar to the top of the engine candy bar. Cut a life saver roll in half and remove the outer wrapper, so the silver shows. Use icing to attach. Add 1 life saver to front of silver wrapped life saver roll and then add 1 yellow m&m to the life saver for a headlight. Add 1 orange candy slice to the front of the engine.
Add mini marshmallows to the mini ice cream cone and attach with icing to the top of the engine.
Each car is a full size 3 Musketeer candy bar. Add the peppermints as wheels to each car with icing.
When the cars are ready with wheels, add them to the engine. The back train car, you add 2 yellow m&ms for backlights. Feel free to decorate each train car to your liking. Tootise roll logs, Dots or gum drops, chocolate chips for coal, mini candy canes and of course the darling Christmas cupcake toppers. Have fun!

THAT is a really "sweet" idea, Linda. What fun for the kids! I love it.
ReplyDeleteI wish my brother were still with us-I would buy the train diffuser for him. He absolutely loved trains. Growing up in the mountains of PA we could hear the train whistles in the valley below....especially on cold , crisp winter nights. He was fascinated with them since he was a lad. sigh....I always gave him something train themed at Christmas time.
Have a wonderful post Thanksgiving weekend. xo Diana
Oh my gosh Linda how fun it this. Lily does look like she has a big red bow lol! So cute. I might have to make one of these. My little 2 year old grandson is into trains since we went on the Polar Express. Have a great rest of the weekend. Hope your Thanksgiving was good. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteLinda, this is so incredibly cute! And yes, Lilly looks like she has a big red bow in her hair! She and Logan are good-looking kids, and looked like they had fun with this great project. I sent the Amazon link to a local friend who, she & her husband, are very active volunteers with our steam-engine operated trains in Cass, WV. I think that diffuser is way too cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and adorable alternative to making a gingerbread house!
ReplyDeleteI love this post:) lily and Lpgan are so cute..It does look like she has a bow atop her pretty head..and the trains are adorbs.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing, Linda. I don't know if our guys could quite handle it but I'm saving the post because I may want to try! Darling and fun!
ReplyDeleteAn old old TRAIN lover here! My screened bedroom window and the night air were all that separated me and all those night-trains which came through a block away, with the coal chute and water tower standing lit in the dark. I could hear each train stop and the sound of the coal descending those five stories into the coal-car.
ReplyDeleteThen I lived most of my life way out in the country, away from those welcome wonderful sounds, and now, even on the fringe of this big city, we're three blocks from a BIG east-west set of tracks, so I'm still tuned in to the magical music of a midnight train.
Your rendition is simply charming---all the accoutrements of the old expressed so sweetly. I do believe the smokestack would be way farther front, so as to keep any sparks flying way back over the coal-car and not into it.
how cute!!! I will share this with the family gingerbread house makers!
ReplyDeleteLinda, what a fun idea to make with your grandkids. The trains came out great and I bet you all had fun making them. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

So fun that you even got a train diffuser! Absolutely adorable, and I'm sure they will always remember this special time with you! Thank you for sharing the idea and directions! My grandbabies are a bit young for this, but someday when they are old enough, it would be so fun to do!
