Making these adorable candy trains is a fun holiday tradition perfect for all ages. They make great table decorations, small gifts, or a delightful project to do with kids. The best part? They require no baking!
Paul cut some thin plywood- 20 inches long X 5 inches wide for the trains. You can also use cardboard. I wrapped the board with Christmas Wrapping paper. You could also use foil.
The train tracks are black licorice- lace or regular. I cut them into pieces to resemble train tracks. Use icing to attach to your board.
The Engine You'll need one and 3/4 part of a regular-sized rectangular candy bar such as 3 Musketeer. 1 half of a life saver roll, wrapper removedThis process is straightforward and fun! Work on a flat, clean surface.
Step 1: Prep the Wheels
Turn the musketeer bar upside down. Use a generous dot of icing on the underside and firmly press one wheel onto each corner. Hold for a moment until it feels secure. Tip: Let the wheels dry for about 10-15 minutes before handling the car too much.
I used 8 peppermints for the engine car.
When the wheels are dry, add 3/4 of a musketeer candy bar to the top of the engine candy bar. Cut a life saver roll in half and remove the outer wrapper, so the silver shows. Use icing to attach. Add 1 life saver to front of silver wrapped life saver roll and then add 1 yellow m&m to the life saver for a headlight. Add 1 orange candy slice to the front of the engine.
Add mini marshmallows to the mini ice cream cone and attach with icing to the top of the engine.
Each car is a full size 3 Musketeer candy bar. Add the peppermints as wheels to each car with icing.
When the cars are ready with wheels, add them to the engine. The back train car, you add 2 yellow m&ms for backlights. Feel free to decorate each train car to your liking. Tootise roll logs, Dots or gum drops, chocolate chips for coal, mini candy canes and of course the darling Christmas cupcake toppers. Have fun!
