My adventures with Miss Lola
Green Acres
Miss Lola and I visited Green Acres, a lovely nursery in our small town. Lots of pumpkins to choose from. They have house plants, pots, a gift store and more.
My baker's rack decked out with Mackenzie Childs.
Dawn Gardens
Jain from A Quiet Life Blog invited us to tour this lovely garden not too far from their home.
We had the pleasure of meeting the owners of Dawn Gardens. Barry Friesen, with his 40 years at Dawn Landscaping, set out to make his property a showcase to his work and experience and God's creation of plants. Out of this, Dawn Gardens was born. His experience includes head gardener at Kaiser Medical Center in Oakland, and horticulture instructor at Merritt College in Oakland. Barry received a degree in 1969 from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. His passion for plants and landscaping is evident in his beautiful work in creating Dawn Gardens.Paul, me and Miss Lola strolling through Dawn Gardens.
We decided to have lunch while visiting. We all enjoyed a smoky brisket sandwich that was so tender and delicious. Of course we had to have some fresh apple pie too.
We stopped at Abel's Acres and snapped a few photos.
Thanksgiving
On Thanksgiving day, we invited Jain and Scott to join us. Jain brought this beautiful floral display with flowers from her garden. Jain was joking about the huge martini glass. We purchased the Holiday Turkey meal from Cracker Barrel. I just had to re-heat everything. It was good, however I prefer my stuffing and gravy. It included country green beans, which I doctored up with cream of mushroom soup and crispy onions. Jain and Scott were sent home with loads of food. Jain told me Scott loved my green beans and had 2 servings. When he was home, he looked at the green beans and said, they don’t look like Linda’s. I only doctored up one container of green beans. Awwwww.Jain snapped another photo of me at our Thanksgiving table. I could not resist buying the John Derian turkey pillow. It makes for a beautiful centerpiece on our Thanksgiving table.
Cheers everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

DeleteHappy December Linda. So many beautiful fall photos of you and Miss Lola, and especially the beautiful garden. The floral arrangement in the big martini glass is perfect for your Thanksgiving table. That John Derian turkey pillow is stunning, and I used mine on our table as well. A friend couldn’t believe how beautiful it is and was surprised I got it at Target so I explained about John. Good to know that Cracker Barrel can do the cooking for you and funny story about Scott and the green bean casserole! The blown glass and steel sculptures are beautiful! Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving.

ReplyDeleteYou and Miss Lola have enjoyed a busy, beautiful fall, Linda. I'd love to tour that amazing garden. Love seeing the photos. The sculptures are amazing! How fun to spend time out and about with friends this time of year. You know I'm a John Derian fan, and I'm thrilled so many of my friends have jumped in and embraced these beaded turkeys. Happy Holidays ahead, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteTo create a garden like that is just a masterpiece. Yes, it will be a treat to revisit in the spring or summer. Jain's bouquet is gorgeous. I have seen those huge martini glasses and wondered what you would do with them. Your repurposing of the glass is wonderful too. I had to laugh about the second batch of green beans - that was great he noticed and complimented you! Have a wonderful December.

I'm sure your art tour was fun. I love seeing all the sculptures and I think it's great they're made with discarded steal. Apple Hill looks like the perfect place to enjoy a fall day! The martini glass with the fall foliage arrangement is awesome. My compliments to the designer. I have the turkey pillow too and made my centerpiece around him. Happy December dear Linda........
