Ahoy! Lets Get Nauti

Ahoy there, fellow decor enthusiasts! Is there anything better than a beautiful tablescape that truly transports you? Today, I’m so excited to share a recent creation that brought the serene charm of the high seas right to our backyard palapa: our very own nautical tablescape!

Under the Palapa's Embrace

Our palapa is a favorite spot for al fresco dining, and it provides the perfect backdrop for a themed table. This time, I wanted to lean into classic nautical vibes, and the structure of the palapa itself really helped set the scene.

Lighting the Way: Red, White, and Blue Lanterns

To truly capture that seaside spirit and add a festive glow, I made great use of our table rod. Hanging from it, I lovingly arranged red, white, and blue lanterns. These aren't just decorative; they cast a warm, inviting light that perfectly complements the nautical color scheme and adds a playful touch to the whole setup. The combination of the classic colors immediately brings to mind sailboats, fireworks, and those long, lazy summer days by the water.

Now, for the star of the show: my beloved Mackenzie-Childs Royal Check Blue Whale planter! If you know me, you know I adore unique pieces, and this whale is a true showstopper. Instead of a traditional vase, I used this charming fellow as the vessel for my floral arrangement. Filled with fresh blooms with sunflowers, carnations and whites with a touch of red.  The whale not only served as an unexpected and delightful centerpiece but also tied in beautifully with the overall nautical theme and my love for MacKenzie-Childs. It's those little personal touches that truly make a tablescape unique, don't you think? The planter also makes a great cooler for those summer drinks.

Starting with these red, white and blue round woven placemats, topped with a nautical dinner plate and lastly these adorable anchor salad plates. The anchor napkin rings hold red cloth napkins that tie in beautifully with my nautical theme. The table runner displays anchors to match the theme.  I added two blue lanterns and candles for a lovely night under the palapa.

The flatware is blue. I am using these fun mini whale plate for appetizers.  A small  sailboat sits on each one.

Anchors aweigh........
Creating this nautical tablescape under our palapa was such a joy. It was a wonderful way to bring a little bit of the ocean's calm and charm to our outdoor dining space, making every meal feel like a mini-vacation.  Of course we are missing the ocean, however we have a fabulous pool. This table is also perfect for the 4th of July or Memorial Day.

Here's a night shot of the table with our pool in the background. I took a quick shot at night, because it started to thunder and lightning

  3. Linda as always you have come up with yet another delightful table setting. What a "whale" of a good time will your guests have. I love all the nautical touches...with all this hot weather, those of us with pools have an instant way to cool off...which I dip into frequently....as I am sure you do also. I continually love to eat alfresco no matter the weather as there is something about poolside or in my tropical Secret Garden...so far the mosquitos have not been an issue. You have lush gardens also, have you had mosquitos yet? Thanks for the inspiration. hugs and blessings

  6. Linda, wonderful "nauti" tablescape. It's "ship shape and bristol fashion". You know I'm in my own coastal mode, so your table is making me feel as if I'm sailing off into a beautiful sunset. I recently filled my whale with hydrangeas, and after a recent visit to the coast, I'm ready to set another nautical themed table. Anchors aweigh, my friend.

That looks like a fun theme for the summer dinner table. Of course the only thing needed here is Popeye the sailor man dolls and action figures, nothing says nautical like Popeye.

  9. Linda, your palapa is the perfect spot for your nautical-themed table. The MC whale is the piece de resistance for the setting. I love the use of the over the table rod, it adds so much charm. The night shot is magical!

  10. I love the anchor motif and how it's repeated throughout. Are you sailing away to fish for mermaids?
